On June 1, Avalon Women’s Centre North Shore opened its doors to share the magic and warmth of the Centre with their community. The well-attended event welcomed a variety of individuals from the local area, including politicians and Avalon supporters Ralph Sultan, MLA for West Vancouver-Capilano, Jane Thornthwaite, MLA for North Vancouver-Seymour, as well as North Vancouver City Councillor Tony Valente.
Visitors received guided tours of the North Shore Centre and learned more about the work that Avalon does and the impact it has on women and families who are recovering from addiction.
“It was wonderful to be able to share our work with the local community,” said Centre Manager Heide Mayne. “The more people know who we are and where we are, the more women will know where to go when they need help.”
On display at the event was the Community Volunteer Spirit Award, which was presented to the women of Avalon by North Shore Community Resources in recognition of their ongoing dedication to volunteerism at Avalon Women’s Centre North Shore.
“The women of Avalon are the lifeblood of our organization, and we could not do the work we do without these amazing volunteers,” said Mayne. “We are so grateful to have such a welcoming and supportive community at our Centre.”
