At SHE RECOVERS we recognize the importance of facilitating whole-life recovery focusing on mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing. Each month at the SHE RECOVERS Sharing Circles we discuss a topic that supports resiliency and building recovery capital in our lives.
July’s topic is “Saying Yes to Less”.
Overindulgence is rarely a good thing. Why then are we drawn to overdo sex, drugs, alcohol, exercise, eating, working, shopping, perfectionism, material possessions and other areas in our lives? Why do we move beyond a place of simply having enough to excess?
Often, a sense of internal dissatisfaction triggers us to seek external things to make us feel happy. This is the reward system of the brain in action – seeking to eliminate pain and enhance pleasure.
So here’s a challenge: In what areas in our lives would less equal more? What if we were to listen to our inner voices, identify what is truly meaningful and of value to us? What changes and action steps would we need to take to connect to what is more meaningful?
Research suggests that simplifying or decluttering areas in our lives can create space for us to be more creative, think more clearly and perhaps connect with what is truly meaningful in our lives – our sacred self.
We invite you to join us this month for a lively discussion on this month’s topic: “Saying Yes to Less.” At SHE RECOVERS we connect, support and empower each other to find individualized pathways and patchworks of recovery.
