Jennie Marsh has been an integral part of Avalon Women’s Centre North Shore since we opened the doors in 1997.
She was one of the first women who took part in meetings at the North Shore location, just a few days after it opened, and has been part of the fabric of Avalon ever since.
As soon as she was able to do so, Jennie started supporting the organization by sponsoring meetings. “I had been given so much in the meetings and by these women,” she says. “As soon as I was able to do sponsor a meeting myself it was a no-brainer.”
Jennie likes to go to Avalon Women’s Centre North Shore as often as possible to greet newcomers. She also spends at least one day a week, if not more, manning the front desk and supporting the Centre Manager.
For Jennie, the best part about being involved with Avalon is “being able to spend time with other women and share my experiences, and to listen – which is a big part of it.”
During the closure, Jennie is continuing to support our virtual meetings as a sponsor and participates in the daily drop-in coffee hour every morning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. She is a great source of strength to women in the community and continues to be a warm and welcoming presence, even in these uncertain times.
We are so grateful to Jennie and the many volunteers like her who are the backbone of our organization. Thank you for keeping our community strong!
