When we needed to close our three Avalon Women’s Centres in March due to COVID-19, TELUS stepped in to generously donate teleconference lines for each Centre. This technology allowed us to quickly transition our in-person meetings into teleconference and virtual meetings, helping us to continue providing vital services to women in addiction recovery.
Here are just a few of the words of thanks we have received from women we support:
“I love the teleconferencing calls. It is such a great way to stay connected to the program. They really help keep me grounded in my program too...we all need this during these challenging times...thank you so much for making them possible.”
“I am so thankful for these meetings.”
“I am able to attend more meetings now.”
“So glad these meetings are happening.”
Being able to keep our community connected has been so important over these last few weeks as many struggle with isolation and loneliness, putting people trying to overcome addiction at risk of relapse.
In addition to this important donation from TELUS, the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation has also recently announced that they will be donating $20,000 to Avalon Recovery Society to help support our programming costs. We are incredibly grateful for this amazing gift, particularly at a time when many of our fundraising events have been postponed or cancelled leaving Avalon with a significant financial loss.
This donation will help Avalon be able to continue to provide the important support and connection women in recovery need during this time. Thanks to the support and generosity of TELUS we can continue to keep our community strong so we can make it through these challenges together!
From all of us at Avalon, a big thank you to TELUS and the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation!
