At Avalon Recovery Society, we take the health and safety of our community very seriously. Many women in recovery have underlying health conditions and are vulnerable to infection and illness, and we have an incredibly small staff and volunteer team that we rely on to operate.
To protect the wellbeing of our community and staff, the Avalon Board of Directors has made the decision to adopt a “slow and steady” approach to the re-opening of our Avalon Women’s Centres.
The timing of this re-opening will align with Phase 3 of the Government of B.C.’s gradual re-opening approach.
The provincial government has recently announced that British Columbia is entering Phase 2 of the restart plan. If the transmission rate remains low or in decline, the province will enter Phase 3 in June.
Once the data demonstrates that it is safe to move forward and the provincial government announces our entry into Phase 3, Avalon will begin our discussions around re-opening procedures.
When this happens, we ask for your understanding and patience as Avalon determines what “the new normal” means for us.
We must ensure everyone’s safety to the best of our ability, and this will undoubtedly mean changes to the way we operate our Avalon Women’s Centres.
At this time and throughout our transition, we will continue to offer virtual meetings, support and services as we have been doing for the past two months.
We are working to determine what the future of Avalon looks like and want to hear from you about the resources you have found valuable during our closure and what you would like to see in our Avalon Women’s Centers when we are able to re-open. We want to thank our Avalon community, donors, volunteers and supporters for their incredible support and adaptability during this difficult time.
We are truly inspired by the way Avalon has come together to support each other through this crisis, and we are confident we will continue to be inspired as we enter a new reality for our work and community.
