I arrived at Avalon in January, 1997, shortly after it opened in West Vancouver, and was greeted with warmth and affection. I knew it would be an oasis for me.
The ‘Old Timers’, of which I am now one, supported and encouraged me in the early months of sobriety, which are so difficult to navigate. I will be 29 years sober on September 30th, and Avalon has been an integral part of my journey.
Over the years I have hosted the Wednesday 12.15 AA meeting, as well as a Big Book meeting on Saturday mornings. I recently became a part-time employee of Avalon and I am enjoying it immensely.
Janet first came to Avalon in 2003 and after retiring from a career in corporate administration in 2021, joined the volunteer team. She felt that it was important to devote some time volunteering in her community, and since then has joined the staff at Avalon.
Janet has been involved with the recovery community for over 20 years and values the fellowship of other women at Avalon.
